11-11-09 Is Eating/Using Animal Products ‘Natural’?

This week on the show I try to answer the question, is eating/using animal products ‘natural’? Is it relevant to whether or not we should do it?

I answer this question from a few different angles. Firstly I list the biological differences between carnivores and humans. Secondly I talk about other immoral behaviours that have been described as ‘natural’ (slavery, murder, rape etc.). Lastly I answer a similar question, “but other animals eat each other so why can’t we?”

I also read out other peoples opinions on this issue and read out this recipe for vegan baked pasta with white sauce.

Ingredients:

2 tbsp oil

3 tbsp flour

2 cups of soy or other non dairy milk

400 grams of non-egg pasta

Grated Cheezley or vegan cheese: optional

Method:

Heat oil in saucepan and stir in the flour. Slowly add the non dairy milk and keep heating and stirring until the mixture thickens.

Cook the pasta in boiling water for 6-10 minutes. Drain the pasta, return to saucepan and stir in the sauce. Pour the pasta into an ovenproof dish and distribute evenly. If using vegan cheese, then add that now.

Bake for 20 minutes at 200 degrees Celsius. Remove from oven and rest for 5 minutes before serving.
