21-10-09 Celebrity (mis)representations of veganism

This week I talk about whether or not we should rely on celebrities to promote animal rights and veganism. I discuss Oprahs 21 day vegan body cleanse (old news I know, but it helps make a point) and some more recent ‘vegan’ celebirties who aren’t really vegan.

I also talk about Catch Cray, an arcade style game where people control a mechanic arm to pick up live crayfish to eat. I also read out this recipe for vegan fudge

6 Tbsp margarine
3 1/2 C icing sugar
1/2 cup sifted cocoa powder
1 tsp vanilla extract
1/4 C soy milk
1 cup chopped nuts (optional)

Lightly grease a 12cm x 20cm pan using a little of the margarine. Place the remaining margarine, sugar, cocoa, vanilla and soy milk in a heatproof mixing bowl or the upper part of a double boiler (small pot in a large pot with water). Place the bowl or boiler over simmering water and stir until smooth. Add nuts if desired. Pour the mixture quickly into the prepared pan. Chill thoroughly and cut into squares. Makes 2-3 dozen squares.
